NL-KVK-27189542-SOM-FCD-SEP Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) Inclusive Horizons – Strengthening Elections and Peace in Somaliland is a seven-month initiative designed to promote inclusive democratic governance, support peaceful electoral processes, and mitigate the risk of political conflict in Somaliland. The project focuses on three interdependent components – Inclusive Participation, Electoral Preparations, and Reconciliation and Dialogue – each addressing structural exclusion and contributing to long-term stability and Somaliland’s path towards democratization.Component 1 aims to increase the political participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and minority groups by strengthening candidate capacity, advancing institutional reform within political parties, and amplifying advocacy for inclusive governance. This work will be implemented in collaboration with four key civil society partners: the Center for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG), the Center for Democracy and Governance (CDG), Build-up and ADAM Academy, whose grassroots presence and technical expertise will ensure community ownership and contextual relevance.Component 2 will support the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in preparing for free, fair, inclusive and transparent Parliamentary and Local 2026 elections through targeted legal reform, technical assistance, and civic education campaigns to broaden public participation and trust.Component 3 will work with the National Peace Committee (NPC) to advance Somali-led peacebuilding efforts, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as SSC-Khatumo, by supporting trusted dialogue platforms and structured reconciliation processes. Through these focused interventions, the project will achieve measurable outcomes: increased engagement of marginalized groups in politics, enhanced institutional inclusivity, and tangible progress toward peace.
